The OPS Memo: What's it all about?

13 January 2012

For those of us not totally up-to-date on the legal recourses availabe for CYSHCN and their families, the two attached documents will be a real eye-opener.  The Department of Public Welfare initiated the OPS Memo to help guide PH-MCOs (Managed Care Organizations) in transitioning medically fragile young adults from pediatric to adult Primary Care Providers.  This important topic has a far-reaching impact for pediatrics in Pennsylvania and nationwide.

On January 12th, the Medical Home Intiative hosted a conference call with  the Office Of Medical Assistance Programs, who helped clarify and illuminate the different features of the OPS Memo and how it can be utilized by pediatricians throughout PA.  If you would like to access a recording of the conference call, simply dial the number below and enter the playback ID.  The Recording will be available until February 11, 2012.

Number: 888-899-7904

ALERT - Medicaid Cuts

09 November 2011

Recenly, the Department of Public Welfare cut tens of thousands of children from its medicaid program due to budget cuts and a backlog of paperwork.  Many of those cut from the program are Children & Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN).  This Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article provides a great deal of information about the recent cuts.

If you or anyone you know have been affected by this issue, please reach out to us using the "Contact Us" button at the top right-hand corner of the MHI page.
